GEBIOMET - Biometeorology Study Group

The GEBIOMET - Study Group in Biometeorology was created on June 4, 2013, at UTFPR - Dois Vizinhos Campus. Given the current challenges of climate change, greenhouse effect and global warming, gas emissions, low carbon agriculture and animal welfare, research aiming to study the effects of climate on agricultural production and animal production systems should be encouraged in research centres and universities.

The mission of GEBIOMET is to develop new research in biometeorology and human resources training. We expect that our personnel will have remarkable professional performance in biometeorology in plant and animal production. Also, our compromise is transferring knowledge about current climatic and meteorological events to society.

GEBIOMET was designed by Dr. Frederico Vieira , who belonged to the Animal Environment Research Nucleus (NUPEA / ESALQ / University of São Paulo, Brazil) between 2005 to 2012. Guided by Prof. Dr Iran Oliveira, his experience was consolidated based on research, teaching and extension activities. When joining the UTFPR-DV, there was a demand for research in the area of Agrometeorology. Also, a desire to develop the philosophy of a quality team toward climate-related issues. Thus, the group started with two students. Our group had up to 12 members from various UTFPR undergraduate courses in less than a year. We are a team of undergraduate and MSc students and distinguished scientists linked to the group with consolidated scientific and extension production in the area.

Currently, GEBIOMET has advanced toward a new level. Besides the internationalisation with two new international associated researchers (Poland and Italy), the group has an extension at UNESP (São Paulo State University) - Botucatu Campus (since July 2022), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Matheus Deniz. This enables the group, whether students or researchers, to work on different challenges and realities in Brazil and worldwide.
