(GEBIOMET team) – The COVID-19 pandemic made adapting to remote classes and meetings necessary, affecting the study groups’ dynamics. Although these online meetings have provided a temporary solution to keep the group connected, returning to face-to-face meetings allows for better interaction between students and exchanging knowledge and experiences.

The moments shared during the meetings, such as discussions or moments of relaxation, help to build a collective history for the group. These shared experiences strengthen the student’s sense of belonging, encouraging members to remain engaged and committed to the study group throughout the semester.



How this is work?

GEBIOMET meetings are being held every week on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. A modality has been adopted where face-to-face and remote sessions are interspersed, allowing UTFPR students to attend face-to-face meetings and members from outside UTFPR to participate, i.e., people who are physically distant but who are part of and essential to the group. An example is the team from the Dairy Cattle Study Group at UNESP - Botucatu, as well as researchers from the Institute of Animal Science in Sertãozinho (SP), UFPR, among others.

Since the beginning of the second half of 2023, two face-to-face meetings and one online meeting have been held, one to discuss the group's internal affairs and prospects for the coming years, and a lecture was also given by member Miguel Portugal, entitled "Gene Expression and Thermal Stress".

New perspectives

GEBIOMET's idea is to continue providing more lectures throughout the semester, presenting partial data from the projects developed and discussing scientific articles, encouraging student participation in debates, stimulating critical thinking and developing new ideas.
